With five Bergen County locations Madison Spine & Physical Therapy is certainly on the move. But don’t let the size fool you.
Founder, Perry Bonomo, says no matter how big Madison Spine and Physical Therapy might get, it will “grow as a family”.
Treating patients like family right from the get-go, when they call for an appointment, to the final stages of their recovery is what Bonomo said he sees as the key to the success of the five sites. These include New Milford Physical Therapy and centers in Westwood, Montvale, Old Tappan and Tenafly as well.
“We have a big emphasis on making the patient feel at home. To me, there needs to be that warm fuzzy feeling,” said Bonomo, who added Madison Spine & Physical Therapy achieves this by “treating the patient like the most important person in the room or like a family member.”
Bonomo, who is a physical therapist along with his wife, attributes the success of his vision to the staff. Not only do therapists come to Madison Spine & Physical Therapy highly qualified through education and training but they also constantly work to advance their education by attending seminars around the county. Just as important as training, however, is a caring nature, Bonomo said. Staff members who can couple training with compassion are chosen, he said.
Besides compassion and family, a second draw, he said, is the “full range of hours available each week,” which eliminates the wait for appointments. At Madison Spine & Physical Therapy, Bonomo said “We get them in right away,” starting patients quickly on the road to treatment for pain ailments, like back pain, fibromayalgia or arthritis.
Bonomo launched the business 11 years ago with one treatment table in New Milford and “never thought it would have expanded so much” he said.
Now he is able to offer a variety of specialized programs, addressing general orthopedic rehabilitation, TMJ disorders, ergonomics and women’s health programs.
One specialized program - available in New Milford - is aquatic therapy, an innovative program of today but with ancient Greek roots. Bonomo explained aquatic therapy puts less stress on the joints, allows for increased freedom of movement and is therefore, tolerated by more patients. Parents find the warmth of the water is so soothing as well.
A third attraction is that Madison Spine & Physical Therapy is therapist-owned which puts Bonomo in a position to understand what’s needed to best care for the neurological and orthopedic conditions of patients, he said.
