We can help you gain the control you need
Incontinence is not a life threatening condition, at least not physically. Emotionally, it can take a toll on your personal, social, and emotional life. Unfortunately, many people think incontinence is inevitable and untreatable, at least not conservatively. But conservative approaches can drastically improve your quality of life, quickly, easily, and painlessly. If you suffer from any type of bladder dysfunction, whether it be small urinary leakage when you cough, sneeze or laugh, or frequency and urgency, we invite you to call or come in for a consultation. Our results are wonderful and you will be glad you took the first step in gaining control of your life again.
Madison Spine and Physical therapy offers a unique program in helping to deal with male and female pelvic floor dysfunctions.
Some of the conditions we treat include:
Treatments may include:
Stress urinary incontinence: The involuntary or accidental leaking of urine, often at inappropriate times. It can occur at any age and can be caused by coughing, laughing, tripping, sneezing, heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity.
Urge incontinence: The involuntary leaking of urine, often accompanied by an urge to urinate, in the absence of physical activity. The amount of urine lost may be a few drops but more often occurs as a "gush", completely emptying the bladder contents. The fuller the bladder, the more likely the occurrence of leaking.
Overactive bladder: Characterized by sudden, strong feelings of urgency caused by uncontrolled (overactive) contractions of the bladder muscle. The urgency may be strong or subtle and can send the person running to the nearest toilet. Overactive bladder is a symptom complex consisting of urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence.
Mixed incontinence: A combination of stress and urge incontinence that is more common as patients age. If the bladder contractions are too strong, and/or the pelvic floor muscles are weak, uncontrollable leaking of urine can occur.
Biofeedback: We have found that our patients respond very well to biofeedback when treating pelvic floor dysfunctions. Biofeedback helps you learn how to better contract and relax your muscles using a computer system.
